Unlike many public or quasi-public economic development agencies that prioritize large-scale business attraction, infrastructure development, or corporate relocation, Jumpstart South Central Wisconsin emphasizes equitable growth, support for entrepreneurs from marginalized communities, and building from within the region. Our model combines:
Individual business support (startups, microbusinesses, minority-owned)
Capacity-building for nonprofit/social-impact organizations
Technology & skills training to foster innovation and sustainability
This approach aligns with community-centered economic development, rather than just growth-for-growth’s-sake.
We aim to build a more inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystem. Our work focuses on using culturally-relevant methods to meet the needs of Black-owned businesses while offering services that benefit the broader Rock County business community. Through strong networks, practical tools, and access to knowledge, we create pathways to success and help shape a local economy where all entrepreneurs have the opportunity to grow and thrive.
Founded in 2019 as Rock County Jumpstart, a fiscally sponsored project, the organization quickly became a driving force in empowering underrepresented business owners. Now operating as an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Jumpstart South Central Wisconsin is expanding its impact beyond Rock County to serve entrepreneurs across Rock, Green, Jefferson, and Walworth Counties. Our mission remains rooted in advancing equity through innovation, education, and collaboration. By bridging gaps in access to funding, technical skills, and networks, we help transform ideas into thriving enterprises that fuel regional economic growth.
